He was married to his wife Diane for about 30 years when she died in 2018. They had one son, Ian.
Richard was the oldest of eight children and grew up in Fountain Valley. He played basketball for the La Quinta Aztecs all through high school. He was an avid mountain climber and hiked many trails in California and the Sequoia national forest during his younger, healthier part of his life. He was a boy scout with his brothers and father.

In Memoriam
I lived around the corner from Richard for many years in Fountain Valley, and we were classmates at McGarvin Junior High and La Quinta High. We were also in Boy Scouts together with his father being an Assistant Scoutmaster. He was a frequent presence in my life and I think fondly of him from those years. He had a great sense of humor and the best laugh of anyone I knew back then. There were many people who thought highly of him and those friends referred to him simply as Mozo. Everybody knew who Mozo was. RIP my friend.

I knew Rich from 6th grade at McGarvin until we graduated in 1976. Later, we lived near each other (2000s.) He was very involved with his son’s basketball program at Murrieta Valley HS, which came as no surprise. Afterwards, he and his wife moved up to Idyllwild. Sadly, they both passed away in the following decade.

We were both Boy Scouts in Troop 515 at St. Barbara`s Church. I remember those days backpacking in the various forests of southern California. RIP my friend!
